Hellström Advokatbyrå Represents Region Västerbotten in Dispute with Livio AB

Ponthus Andersson, Georgios Eleftheriadis and Moa Granhagen are acting as counsel for Region Västerbotten in a locally high-profile dispute between the Region and Livio AB concerning the interpretation of the parties’ framework agreement VLL 631-2017 regarding compensation for certain infertility treatments.

The dispute began in 2021 when Livio sought payment from the Region for frozen embryo transfer treatments carried out under the framework agreement. The Region has disputed Livio’s claims on the grounds that the frozen embryo transfers covered by Livio’s claim were provided as part of complete infertility treatments and that compensation has been paid in full in accordance with the terms of the framework agreement.

The main issue before the court is whether compensation for the frozen embryo transfers should be considered included in certain types of treatment under the framework agreement or whether such treatments should be compensated separately.

The main hearing took place before Umeå District Court on 24–26 March 2026. Judgment in the case is expected to be delivered on 17 April 2026.

The dispute has attracted attention in local newspapers including Norran and Västerbottens-Kuriren.
